Advocacy

The ethic of preservation is vital in communities around the world. In Detroit, the preservation message is one that must be broadcast to a wider audience and incorporated into a deeper dialogue. While preservation efforts have increased dramatically in the last three decades, the full potential of preservation’s scope is hardly realized in the Motor City.

Preservation Wayne and its partners are at the vanguard of the preservation movement in Detroit, advocating for progress in the media and in the halls of power.

Legal
At times, preservation organizations have been compelled to take legal action to fight against unlawful or contested building demolitions in the city of Detroit. Preservation Wayne and its partners stand at the ready to guarantee that local, state and federal laws are upheld and honored. With your support, our mission to protect Detroit’s architectural heritage is ensured.

If you are interested in volunteering your legal services to defend Detroit’s built environment, please fill out our online volunteer form today.

Greater Detroit Historic Preservation Coalition
Preservation Wayne has teamed with local, state, and national preservation partners to form the Greater Detroit Historic Preservation Coalition, an open, ad hoc body of Detroit-focused historic preservation, professional and civic organizations. The Coalition’s goal is to provide a more coordinated function between groups and a unified voice for preservation in Detroit. Facilitated by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Coalition includes representatives from an evolving consortium of organizations.
